To say that 2020 has been tension-filled is an understatement! But, as we continue in our Advent Season, we are reminded even more acutely the push/pull dynamic that exists both within and without us!
Our passage from the Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55) encourages, “He has cast down the mighty…, and haslifted up the lowly…He has filled the hungry…and the rich he has sent away empty….”
And Psalm 126 we hear the foundation of the Song of Mary: “The Lord has done great things for them. The Lord has done great things for us.”
Thomas Merton said, “Joy in praising God is the pure essence of the spirit of the Church’s prayer, and it is the reward of a soul that knows how to penetrate fully by faith, love, and prefect submission to God, into the deepest meaning of the psalter.”
It is a unique awareness that we must grasp and live into: *awaiting the birth of our Savior *knowing that He has already been born *grieving His death *celebrating His resurrection *anticipating His coming again
As we continue to move through these days of Advent, look to the Psalms for comfort, for joyful expression, for passionate praise.
